Accounting Specialist

Job Description

The NSRI Accounting Specialist is responsible for supporting major financial and accounting areas, including, but not limited to accounts payable/accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliations. Other broad responsibilities include interacting with officials at senior levels of government, military and the civilian sector. The Accounting Specialist will perform varying and complex responsibilities in a high-visibility, fast-paced environment to ensure accomplishment of NSRI’s overall mission.

Job type: Full time; day shift; Monday - Friday

Salary: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year

Work location: Omaha, Neb. (not remote)

Direct Duties

The Accounting Specialist key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with NSRI cost accounting system management
  • Assist in the management of NSRI post-award accounting and government invoicing
  • Work with NSRI management to ensure that all invoices and transactions are accurately coded to specific projects ensuring necessary approvals are in place supporting the expense.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining various financial reports for the Government and NSRI executive staff
  • Assist in creating new vendors in NSRI’s cost accounting system, obtain W-9 form from new vendors and assist with issuing 1099s each year
  • Assist with maintenance of NSRI Costpoint cost accounting system database to include entering data and reconciling expenses to monthly reports
  • Ensure financial transactions are in compliance with NSRI and University rules and regulations, as well as State and Federal laws.
  • Comply with records retention policies and procedures
  • Assist in responding to audits and related matters
  • Liaison with Government representatives in reconciling invoices and resolving payment
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

A successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic and the ability to adapt to business needs.

Other ideal attributes include:

  • 5 years of accounting experience (required)
  • Must have Associates degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience in this field; bachelor's degree (preferred)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • A high level of organization with ability to research and recall information
  • Strong time management, prioritization and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work in an independent and collaborative setting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Deltek is a plus

Accounting and Finance Manager

Job Description

The Accounting and Finance Manager will oversee the overall accounting and finances of NSRI.

Job type: Full-time; day shift; Monday - Friday

Salary: $90,000 - $95,000 per year

Work location: Omaha, Neb. (not remote)

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Hires and trains new employees in the Finance department.
  • Supervises and manages the Finance department’s assignments and priorities.
  • Assigns financial responsibilities in consultation with the Director of Business Operations.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Manages/approves all time off requests for the Finance department.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains Cost Accounting System requirements in accordance with FAR, DFARS, and 2 CFR 200.
  • Prepares corporate financial statements in a timely fashion.
  • Creates and maintains internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Generates annual indirect and fringe rate proposals for federal rate negotiations.
  • Develops and monitors annual budget and monthly execution.
  • Provides relevant financial information to executive management team.
  • Accountable for financial procedures and records.
  • Leads fiscal year closeout activities and audit requirements.
  • Maintains corporate checking accounts and invoices.
  • Responsible for the various ledgers including cash disbursements, cash receipts, accounts payable, month-end payroll summary, accounts receivable summary, and journal entries to adjust the general ledger.
  • Generates monthly reports including accounts payable reconciliation, accounts receivable reconciliation, cash flow report, and balance sheet audits.
  • Performs other related duties as requested by the Director of Business Operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, or Finance, with a minimum of 10 years of experience; OR a relevant Master’s degree with five (5) years of experience.
  • At least two (2) years of Deltek Costpoint experience in a federal defense contracting environment. This is a full requirement.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of cost accounting principles, practices, and policies in accordance with FAR, DFARS and 2 CFR 200
  • Proficient in Deltek Costpoint
  • Ability to lead, participate and respond to federal and internal audit requirements
  • Ability to compute indirect cost pools for overhead and fringe benefits
  • Ability to negotiate rate agreements with Government agencies
  • Ability to create and manage corporate budgets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with Expert-level experience in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent managerial skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
