Meet Grady
Grady Henexson, a recent graduate in the department of computer engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, contributed to research and development of advanced algorithms for Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (JEMSO) during his time as a strategic deterrence intern with NSRI in Summer 2024.
Following his time with NSRI, Grady plans to continue his career in national security by enlisting into officer school for the United States Navy.

Q&A
Share a bit more about what you worked on throughout your NSRI internship.
The team I worked with and the research we studied aimed to eliminate unwanted RF signals, improving communication reliability. My role involved conducting research on interference scenarios, developing algorithms and software, testing performance, and presenting findings to NSRI leadership and STRATCOM experts.
What would you tell peers who might be considering an internship with NSRI?
The research opportunities NSRI provides is like no other. Although I have a background in the military through the UNL Naval ROTC program, I would strongly encourage my peers who aren't to get involved in this program. The knowledge you gain about Department of Defense (DOD) interests and the connections you make are unmatched to any other internship.
When you think about the grader purpose of this project and the background you have in the military, do you find a sense of pride and/or patriotism from working with NSRI?
Absolutely! The pride this program brought was immeasurable and extremely rewarding. Particularly, the ability to return to my ROTC unit and share my experiences in research and networking with leaders at STRATCOM brings a level of joy I am extremely proud to hold.
Working on a project directly tied to national defense gave me a deep sense of purpose and pride. Knowing that my contributions could play a role in supporting the safety and security of our nation reinforced my commitment to serving in the military and strengthened my passion for advancing technologies, such as the ones my group studied.
