NDMS Infectious Disease Transport and Mortuary Care Meeting

We would like to formally invite you to participate in the National Disaster Medical System Infectious Disease Transportation and Mortuary Care Meeting January 7-8, 2020 at the NSRI/NU Savage Center, located in Annapolis Junction, MD. The meeting is being organized by the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the National Strategic Research Institute, and through funding from the Office of the U.S. Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response. The purpose of this meeting is to convene national and international experts from ASPR, NDMS, and EMS organizations to design and develop two NDMS training curriculum:

  • EMS Infectious Disease transport standards, training, and research to address key knowledge gaps.
  • Infectious mortuary care standards, training, and research to address key knowledge gaps.

The meeting will consist of two 1-day workshops (patient transport and mortuary care) to explore operational and training requirements for infectious disease response by the U.S. National Disaster Medical System. The University of Nebraska Medical Center will reimburse travel costs to participants as needed (Click here for more info). Event Objectives:

  • Transport Workshop January 7, 2020 Identify the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to care for and safely transport Ebola patients, or those with other highly pathogenic diseases, using appropriate National Disaster Medical System ground transportation resources.
  • Mortuary Workshop January 8, 2020 Identify the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to safely handle and transport human remains with Ebola or other pathogenic diseases using appropriate National Disaster Medical System resources.
